On Friday 8th August, Alexander (Xander) Meek celebrated his 3 year anniversary at Ground Up! Xander is one of our Maintenance Contractor's and an integral part of our field team.
Of course, in true Ground Up style we had an office celebration with Krispy Kreme doughnuts and lots of laughs, looking back on all the things that Xander has learnt since his journey here started.

How his role has changed from when he started until now.
When Xander started at Ground Up, he was eager and ready to learn, but with little experience in the field. He was trained whilst being on jobs and always under close supervision. Now however, he has been given much more independence as both his confidence and skills have developed and is now given much more responsibility.
Xander's favourite thing about working for Ground Up.
As well as the variety of jobs that he has worked on, Xander said he loves being in a job that allows him to travel up and down the country and spend lots of time outside, constantly seeing different places and meeting new people.
A day in the life for Xander:
- Along with the other field staff, Xander's day usually starts at the Ground Up office in Kenilworth, prepping the van with all the tool's needed for that day's jobs, and mapping out their route to make sure they're working as efficiently as possible.
- Once the van is loaded and ready, they head off from the office to their first job. The amount of jobs to be completed per day varies dependant on where the jobs are located, and the size of the jobs.
- Lunch is usually around 1pm and often eaten at a service station!
- After lunch it's back on the tools and either straight back to site, or onto the next job.
- If Xander is working on a bigger job that requires more than a day's work, an overnight stay in another city may be required. If not, they will head back to the Ground Up office and complete any required reports from the day's work.
The variety of jobs and locations means that no two days are the same, and Xander has been able to learn a lot of different skills in a short amount of time.
What is one thing that Xander knows now that he didn't before starting at Ground Up?
Having worked closely with Sam, who is our roofing specialist, Xander has taken a special interest in this and learnt lots from him. Xander has been to many jobs with Sam to learn from him while he works and have the ability to hopefully complete these jobs himself in future.
