Solar Panel Maintenance & Restoration

When it comes to solar energy, ongoing maintenance is key to keeping systems safe, efficient, and performing at their best. At Ground Up Property Group, we were recently called out to a commercial property where the solar array had started underperforming due to a build-up of dirt, overgrown vegetation, and some water-damaged components.

For facilities and property managers, this is a familiar story — solar panels are a fantastic long-term investment, but without regular upkeep, efficiency can drop, and safety issues can develop.

Our team carried out a two-visit programme to clean and restore the panels, replace damaged DC isolators, secure dislodged fixings, and remove vegetation blocking sunlight. The result? A fully restored, safe, and compliant solar system back to optimal performance.

Following an initial inspection, our team identified key areas requiring attention:

  1. Cleaning & Maintenance to remove dirt and debris accumulation.
  2. Shading Issues – Overgrown vegetation blocking direct sunlight.
  3. Structural Integrity – One solar panel on String 1 had dislodged fixings.
  4. Safety & Compliance – Two DC isolators showed signs of water ingress.

What Did We Do To Support?

Attended site and completed a full solar panel clean using certified, manufacturer-approved cleaning solutions to protect the panel surfaces.

Removed debris, overgrown vegetation, and small trees obstructing sunlight, improving energy capture efficiency.

Ensured panels were free from shading and contamination to restore performance.

Safely isolated the solar array from the DC isolator located on the roof to ensure a safe working environment.

Replaced solar panel fixings on the dislodged panel in String 1, securing it back into place.

Replaced two damaged DC isolators identified with water ingress, restoring compliance and operational safety.

Conducted final system checks to verify the safe reactivation of the array.

What Was The Outcome?

Restored energy efficiency through professional cleaning and vegetation removal.

Enhanced system safety by replacing faulty isolators and securing loose panels.

Reduced risk of future damage and downtime through preventative maintenance.

Improved lifespan and reliability of the solar installation.

Compliance assurance with electrical and safety standards.

This project is a great example of how proactive maintenance can make all the difference in keeping solar systems safe, efficient, and fully operational. By tackling issues like debris build-up, shading, and water-damaged isolators early, we helped the property avoid costly downtime and potential safety risks — while restoring the system to peak performance.

At Ground Up Property Group, we understand that facilities and property managers have a lot to juggle. That’s why we provide end-to-end support — from inspection and isolation to cleaning, repairs, and vegetation management — so you can have confidence your solar assets are in expert hands.

If your solar installation hasn’t been serviced in a while, or you’ve noticed a drop in output, it might be time for a check-up. Our team is here to help keep your systems safe, compliant, and performing at their best.
