Residential Security Systems & Ensuring Public Safety

In multi-occupant buildings, a well-functioning security and access control system is essential for maintaining both safety and convenience. Residents rely on these systems not only to secure the premises but also to manage everyday access smoothly and efficiently. When a system fails, it can cause significant disruption — affecting tenants’ ability to enter or exit safely, compromising building security, and potentially breaching compliance standards. Regular maintenance, prompt fault response, and thorough system checks are therefore vital to ensure reliability, protect residents, and uphold the building’s overall safety and integrity.

Ground Up's Fast Response

When we received a call regarding a fault with the building’s main door entry system, our team responded promptly to ensure minimal disruption and maintain site security. Upon arrival, our engineers carried out an initial assessment and quickly identified that access to the premises was restricted due to a malfunctioning entry mechanism. To proceed safely and avoid any damage to the property, we arranged for a qualified locksmith to attend site and assist us in gaining controlled access.

Once entry was achieved, our electrician began a detailed investigation to understand the extent of the issue. We always approach such faults methodically, ensuring that safety and site integrity remain our top priorities throughout the process.

On-Site Investigation and Findings

Following a visual and electrical inspection of the door entry system, our electrician confirmed that the system was completely without power. Using testing equipment, we verified that no voltage was present at any of the cables feeding the entry unit. The team then began a tracing exercise to identify the cable routes and determine the source of the fault.

It was established that the supply cables run underground, most likely connecting back to a remote electrical board within the premises. However, despite an extensive search, the relevant fuse board or isolator controlling this supply could not be located on site. We explored all accessible areas and liaised with building representatives to locate the feed point, but it became clear that a more comprehensive track-and-trace would be required in daylight conditions to safely identify the origin of the supply.

Professional Recommendations and Next Steps

Given the circumstances and limited visibility during evening hours, it was not safe or practical to continue with intrusive electrical tracing at that time. As part of our safety-first approach, our electrician recommended returning during daylight hours to complete a full and detailed track-and-trace of the supply route. This follow-up visit will allow us to:

  • Identify the location of the supply fuse board or isolator.

  • Confirm the continuity of the underground cables serving the door entry system.

  • Diagnose and rectify any faults found along the cable run.

  • Restore power to the system in a safe and controlled manner.

This approach ensures the fault is resolved efficiently without compromising on electrical safety or site security.

Temporary Security Measures and Conclusion

To maintain secure access for occupants while the system remains offline, the locksmith disabled the locking mechanism on the door. This measure provides controlled entry and exit until the electrical fault can be repaired, ensuring the premises remain accessible and safe.

In summary, our team responded swiftly, conducted a detailed on-site investigation, and provided a clear, professional plan of action for full resolution. Once the follow-up visit is completed, we will restore full functionality to the door entry system, ensuring reliable performance and peace of mind for the client.
